Lord's delights for a second time

Following on from our pre-dinner gig in the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground last October, on 22nd May 2025 we were invited onto the pitch to sing before the Final at the UK Armed Forces T20 cricket.

Lord's delights for a second time

With Assistant Director Emma at the helm, first we sang Jerusalem – the designated official hymn of the England and Wales Cricket Board. A quartet – Lead Ali, Tenor Helen, Baritone Liz and Bass Fran – sang the opening lines before being joined by the rest of the chorus to build the song. This was followed by God Save the King in a skilful arrangement by our Bass section leader Fran Carter.

The whole thing was broadcast on British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), a military charity that entertains the UK’s armed forces around the world. Emma – an LGBT Royal Navy veteran – was interviewed about VDC and also spoke of her time in the Navy, her work helping to change UK law to allow gay people to serve in the military and how she is now sitting as an independent panel member on the Government’s LGBT Recognition Scheme.

We had some wonderful feedback from our audience and it’s fair to say the event will stay in our memories for a long time.
