Open Mic Night

On Tuesday 25th Sept, nine Vocal Dimension members enjoyed a night out at the pub!

After trekking through rain and the wilds of Surrey to The Crown in Capel, they gave much appreciated and very Vocal support to VDC Bass, Nicky Blumfield, who was appearing at the regular open mic, playing guitar and singing – unexpectedly high! – harmonies with friend and lead singer, Jules Crow.

Joined by David Ord and Mark Sugden-Best on bass and drums, they performed three covers – You’ve Got A Friend, Chasing Cars and Dreams.

Then, much to the surprise of the audience, Vocal Dimension stepped up and performed five songs, ranging from barbershop favourite San Francisco Bay Blues to pop classic Holdin' Out For A Hero.

Quite a change from the usual guitar-based soft-rock and indie style usually found on the premises...and no need for a mic, open or otherwise!

Despite the small number of singers and (due to lack of space) Director Valerie having to direct from one side – whilst also singing lead – the set went down a storm, being followed by rapturous applause. Equally gratifyingly, the MC asked if there was any chance of a repeat performance next month!
