Valerie Taylor - Our Director
Valerie Taylor - Director

Valerie Taylor has been singing for as long as she can remember. Her musical career started at school where she studied flute and piano to Grade 8. After completing her degree, her singing career continued in the Royal Choral Society where she had the opportunity to sing in all the top London venues.

While looking for something different to do, Valerie stumbled upon barbershop and before long she was hooked by the combination of vocal artistry and performance. As Assistant Director of a highly successful chorus she competed in barbershop competitions both nationally and internationally. Valerie also spent 5 years on the management team that runs the Quartet of Nations (Sweet Adelines International Region 31) in the UK and the Netherlands. She is also on the Education Steering Group and a member of the Regional Faculty.

Valerie is a trustee on the board of Making Music which is the UK’s membership organisation for leisure-time music, with over 3,700 groups representing around 200,000 music makers across the UK.

On top of all of this, Valerie became the first person outside the US and Canada to qualify as a Certified Sweet Adelines International Sound Judge. Valerie is thrilled to have made it into this elite group of women who judge barbershop competitions all over the world. As part of her music education, Valerie regularly travels to the US to work with the top international barbershop experts.

In 2014 as the baritone of Domino Quartet, Valerie won the UK Quartet gold medal and went on to represent the UK in the Sweet Adelines International competition in Baltimore, USA where the Quartet won the International Novice Award (along with a beautiful trophy!)

With her skills much in demand, Valerie coaches choruses and quartets all over the UK and has been described as "an inspiration". She is thrilled to be directing Vocal Dimension and is having an absolute ball!
